Salon Privé 2010: Hypercar Heaven – including Panther Six

The Panther Six - six-wheeled Hypercar - makes an appearance at Salon Prive

It’s getting closer to Salon Privé 2010, that annual festival of all things ‘Super’ in cars at the Hurlingham Club, and this year there’s an extra reason to toddle along for a day of petrol and Champagne – The Concours Hypercar Class.

Salon Privé has cobbled together an impressive array of Hypercars for a special ‘Hypercar Concours’ at this year’s event, including the rather spectacular ‘Lady Penelope-Style’ Panther Six. The Panther Six is a six wheeled, 1970s creation with a mid-mounted, 8.2 litre Cadillac V8 and a claimed 200+ mph top speed. Only two were ever made – one black, one white – and it’s the white Panther Six which is making an appearance at the show.

Also on offer will be a Ferrari F40 and F50; Jaguar XJ220; a Porsche 959; Bugatti EB110 GT and even Aston Martin V600 Le Mans.

Although the Panther Six will probably be the most spectacular looking car – and certainly the most bizarre – the greatest of the Hypercars will be there – the McLaren F1. We half expect that Salon Privé’s usual freedom to climb all over and in and out of cars on show may not extend to the McLaren F1.

But if it does, it’s going to be fun watching the uninitiated trying to clamber in to the F1′s driving seat after a glass or three of Champagne.
