Segway boss killed on Segway
Mon, 27 Sep 2010The Segway
The Segway was going to revolutionise the way we travelled. Unfortunately, it was pretty much illegal in the UK as you’d need a driving license to operate one. Which rather defeated the object as transport for the pedestrian.
In America the Segway fared better, but wasn’t helped much by photos of George Bush jumping off one or Piers Morgan crashing his by the beach in LA.
Despite that a Brit – Jimi Heselden – recently took control of the company. And like any good boss he was an advocate of his own products. Which explains why he was out on a cross-country version of the Segway in West Yorkshire yesterday near his home
Sadly, Jimi seems to have lost his way and drove his Segway over a cliff and in to the River Wharfe near Boston Spa. West Yorkshire Police said the body had been reported early Sunday and the Segway nearby.
Jimi Heselden made his fortune with defence contracts after investing his redundancy money when the local pit closed. He was said to be worth £166m.
