If we told you a place where you could grab a brand new VW Golf for £10,995 it’d grab your attention, right?

And if we told you that not only was it a brand spanking new Golf, but it came with alloys, touch-screen stereo with CD changer, AirCon, electric windows and electric door mirrors, would that make it even more appealing?

This brand new Golf is powered along by a perfectly decent 101bhp, 1.6 litre petrol lump which, although not the pick of the range, is a perfectly good lump with acceptable performance and economy. So that’s no problem.

Skoda has decided that their ‘We’ll pay the VAT‘ offer that’s been running as long as a DFS sale isn’t enough, so they’ve whacked 25% off a Skoda Octavia – the Skoda Octavia 1.6 MPI (102 PS) SE – making it just £10,995.

The offer is for just 2,000 cars in the UK, but is a very cheap way to get in to what is basically a VW Golf with a slightly more utilitarian interior. Same build quality. Same decent handling. Different badge.
