Skoda has today issued the first full photos of the new Superb Combi estate – and it promises to be one of the load-lugging bargains of the year. The regular Superb 'hatchaloon' is vast, and the Superb Combi offers even more space for not much more dough.
The Superb Combi wagon stretches to 4838mm long and boot space stands at an echoing 633 litres. Tug the rear seats down and that'll extend to a binocular-requiring 1865 litres. Yes, yes – it's an estate car. But we do somehow admire the Superb. It's just so much car for the money and makes you wonder why anyone bothers with a premium badge estate when you can get so much for so little.
Skoda Superb Combi: the gadgets
There are the requisite number of gizmos on the Superb wagon, including Skoda's first ever electric tailgate (as an option). The load cover retracts automatically, Skoda is fitting its first keyless go system and there's even a two-piece panoramic sunroof for sizzling the kids.
Engines will mirror those in the Superb saloon:
• 125bhp 1.4 TSI
• 160bhp 1.8 TSI
• 360bhp 3.6 FSI V6 (yes, really!)
• 102bhp 2.0 TDI
• 168bhp 2.0 TDI
The Skoda Superb estate is due to arrive in UK showrooms in February 2010.
What else is new at Frankfurt on the Skoda stand?
Visit the Czechs' stand at the IAA's 2009 Frankfurt motor show and you'll see a Yeti, an LPG-equipped Octavia and personalised Roomsters with Mini-style coloured roofs.
