SoCal Sweetness: Corvettes, Mustangs and Camaros head to RM auction

Muscle cars from the late 1960s and early '70s. Modern performance cars. They're pretty much a microcosm of why our species has a carnal lust for sheetmetal. And a wide selection of these icons will hit the auction block this summer in San Diego.
RM Auctions is hosting a one-day sale of more than 80 cars from a private Southern California collector on June 19 on the grounds of the Town and Country Resort & Convention Center. The cars will be offered at no reserve. All told, RM estimates that more than 30,000 hp will be available at the event.
The meat market--er, field--will include a low-mileage 1969 Chevrolet Corvette L88 with a V8 pumping out 430 hp; it's one of 18 Vettes at the sale.
Chevy fans will also want to check out the 1970 Chevelle LS6 convertible, making 450 hp from a 454-cubic-inch V8. This rare muscle car is one of five Chevelles heading to the auction.

The Boss: This 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429 will cross the block at the RM auction in June. More than 80 muscle cars past and present will be offered at no reserve.
The field will also include a restored 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge (one of 20 GTOs), a 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429 and two 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28s.
“The selection of cars on offer features many rare color combinations, and many examples have undergone professional, concours-quality restorations” Ian Kelleher, RM president, said in a statement.
Looking for something more modern to drive to work? A number of low-mileage, late-model BMW Ms and Mercedes-Benz AMGs will be on hand.
