Subaru Impreza Concept at LA
Thu, 18 Nov 2010The Subaru Impreza Concept revealed at LA Motor Show
A new Subaru Impreza – or the Subaru Impreza Concept, to be precise – is not something we had on the radar for the Los Angeles Motor Show. In fact the only thing we really had on the radar for Subaru was perhaps the Subota Coupe; certainly not a new Impreza.
Subaru aren’t calling the Impreza Concept the new Impreza, but I think we’ll assume there’s a clue in the name. And Subaru do need to do something to breathe some design life back in to the Impreza. And this Impreza Concept does look promising.
The Impreza Concept looks a bit like a beefed-up Volvo with a Subaru twist. It has the bulging arches and wide nose needed to convey power and aggression and it has the slightly jarring lines that seem to be creeping in to many designs. It is better looking than the sum of its parts.
This Impreza Concept comes with full set of running gear which Subaru say is representative of Subaru’s next generation powertrain. The engine is a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated Boxer engine with a Lineartronic CVT ‘box. The engine is a development of the 2.5 litre Boxer engine in the Forester and the CVT ‘box is from Fuji.
A promising direction for the Impreza. At least it looks like an Impreza from the 21st century.
