Subaru WRX STI: More power & free SatNav
Tue, 05 Apr 20112011 Subaru WRX STI - gets free extra oomph
The new registration has come and gone and unless you’re offering a must-have convertible or something shiny and new it’s getting close to the time when car makers need to offer more for no more to shift metal. Cue the Subaru WRX STI.
Subaru has decided that it’s going to offer a chunk more performance – and a SatNav – without charging a penny more on the WRX STI. But only until the end of June.
The 2.5 litre Boxer lump in the Scooby normally produces 296bhp and 300lb/ft of torque which is enough for a 0-62mph of 5.2 seconds and a top speed of 158mph.
Now, Subaru has developed a power pack for the WRX STI which adds 20bhp and 32lbs/ft of torque, resulting in a 4.9 second 0-60mph and more mid-range punch. And, of course, it’s still covered by the Subaru warranty.
To go with the freebie power upgrade Subaru are also throwing in a Pioneer SatNav with touchscreen, Bluetooth and iPod connections. The screen of the SatNav can also be clicked out and attached to a laptop for mapping updates.
If you were umming and ahhing about the Scooby, the extra goodies will probably tip you in. At £33k for the hatchback or the saloon (because for 2011 you can now have a WRX STI saloon too) there’s a chunk of bang for your buck.
And we all like something for nothing.
