Taggart motorcycle collection to cross the block during Pebble Beach weekend
Tue, 12 Jul 2011
Auction house Mecum will sell a collection of Michael Taggart's motorcycles along side the classics, vintage racers and exotics this year at Pebble Beach.
They all will be offered at the third-annual Mecum Monterey Auction on Aug. 18-20 at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa on the Del Monte Golf Course in California.
Taggart, whose grandfather created the Taggart Baking Co., makers of Wonder Bread, grew up in Indianapolis near Indianapolis Motor Speedway and always had a passion for cars and motorcycles. His bike collection spans years and categories to include everything from racing bikes to street and motocross examples.
The collection features a 1929 Norton CS1 which was stored in Taggart's living room. It also has a variety of brands, including Rickman, Matchless, Harley, Honda Norton and Triumph, to name a few.
"Mecum has established an ongoing commitment to find underexposed motorcycles and expose them to interested buyers around the globe via the auction platform," motorcycle-division head Gavin Trippe said. "We are excited to showcase this collection of bikes in our prime Monterey environment, where collectors are eager to see and appreciate the art of the motorcycle in a live auction setting."
Admission and parking to the event are free. The auction will be broadcast live on Discovery's HD Theater channel.
