Thinking Automotive Design
Mon, 17 Oct 2011At a time when nine new automotive plants are being built in Brazil, the production of local design studios has acquired strong significance in the market. Significantly, the best-selling cars in the country are the VW Gol and the completely new Fiat Uno, both developed locally. It's therefore no surprise that car design gains more importance in the country's cultural scenario.
In order to cater to this growing designer demographic, the country will have its first big conference on car design, from October 17 to 20, 2011. Hosted by the architecture and design college of the University of Sao Paulo (FAU USP), the event called ‘Thinking Automotive Design' will have the participation of renowned figures of automotive design from Brazil, Europe and Asia.
During the conference's four days there will be lectures, workshops, debates and a small exhibition of vehicles from VW, Fiat and Ford, whose design directors will speak at the conference. The debates will bring together designers from industry and academia, including Professor Dale Harrow from the Royal College of Art, keynote lecturer of the event. CDN will be publishing a full report on the Brazilian design conference in a few weeks' time.
