Top Gear, Belfast and a Renault Twingo
Sun, 06 Dec 2009Top Gear firing a Renault Twingo in to the sea in Belfast
A couple of months ago we reported that Top Gear had upset Belfast with its filming antics for the latest series. To be fair, they didn’t upset Belfast as such, just a publicity seeking politician and a moron from FoE. All par for the course, we’d say.
But tonight you’ll get to judge for yourself if, as the egit politician said, you think the cost of the episode was worthwhile. As we said at the time, the offending idiot just doesn’t live in the real world – like most politicians. Top Gear makes the Beeb a fortune, and you can’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs (or a Renault Twingo or two).
This episode features the boys racing through sewer tunnels in Belfast (think The Italian Job), hoisting cars up to the top of the Harland and Wolff cranes and shooting the Twingo in to the sea. Hammond also gets to investigate a way to speed up airport departures with a piece on airport vehicle racing. Star in a Reasonably Priced Car is, as we reported earlier, Guy Richie, who managed to eat up the entire Top Gear budget in one go by wrecking four cars.
Just a normal Top Gear episode. But it’s on at 8.30pm on BBC2 tonight instead of 9.00pm.
