Top Gear Special: 50 Years of James Bond Cars
Mon, 15 Oct 2012Top Gear has produced a ’50 Years of James Bond Cars’ special – presented by Richard Hammond – which airs at the end of October.
What do you get if you take two of the most successful franchises the UK has ever produced – Top Gear and James Bond – and stitch them together? That’s right, a Top Gear Special on 50 years of Bond cars.
With Top Gear on a bit of a hiatus - what with Strictly, the X Factor and the Olympics conspiring against its usual Autumn airtime – Top Gear has put together a special edition, presented by Richard Hammond, to celebrate all things Bond car as the Bond franchise powers forward with what is reckoned to be its best outing ever - SKYFALL.
But it’s not just a new Bond film in SKYFALL that’s grabbing the headlines, but the fact that it’s fifty years since Bond first hit the big screen with Dr No.
According to Top Gear producer Andy Wilman, this is not an opinionated Top Gear outing but an old fashioned documentary where Richard does more listening than talking.
Richard takes a look at everything from the original Aston Martin DB5 to the Aston Martin Vanquish by way of the Lotus Esprit in The Spy Who Loved Me, where Roger Moore talks Richard through the Bond car stunts.
There’s also a typical Top Gear piece with Richard attempting to build a Bond car on a budget – an invisible car and a Lotus submarine – and a bit of behind the scenes promo for SKYFALL too.
The Top Gear 50 Years of James Bond special airs at the end of the month – just as SKYFALL premiers.
