Top Gear: Skoda Yeti, Ariel Atom V8, Porsche 911 & John Bishop tonight
Sun, 23 Jan 2011Top Gear Skoda Yeti Helipad
We thought that Top Gear had kicked in to the start of a new series – Series 16 AB (that’s ‘After Boring’ Top Gear) – when we had the Three Wise Men Christmas Special and the preceding Top Gear East Coast USA Road Trip. But it was a trick; nothing more than an hors d’œuvre for the new series. But Top Gear series 16 does start tonight – 8pm BBC2 (GMT).
Tonight sees the usual mayhem and a set of road tests – of sorts. TG don’t do regular tests, so there will be more than a smattering or two of stupidity and a soupçon – maybe more – of inspiration on offer. And the subject of four-wheeled attention tonight? The Porsche 911, the Ariel Atom V8 and the Skoda Yeti.
The Beeb sent us a trailer video (below) from which we assume that Jeremy is using the Yeti as a helipad. James is let loose on the Ariel Atom V8 – cue distorted facial features – and finds a way to grab a quick lap despite the current ‘Stig Sacked‘ situation. And the Hamster tries to convince that the Porsche 911 isn’t just a Beetle with attitude.
Star in a Reasonably Priced car tonight is current flavour of the month on the comedy circuit – John Bishop. Expect comments about cars on bricks (John is a Scouser) and tombstone teeth. Now Graham Norton has bagged Jonathan Ross’s old slot there are probably going to be fewer ‘A-Listers’ looking for airtime to plug their latest ventures, so the SIARPC participants this series will probably be a notch down from Cruise & Diaz. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing.
All seems right with the world. It’s Sunday, and it’s Top Gear.
