Top Ten most unreliable cars in Europe
Tue, 25 Sep 2012Top Ten lists are always fascinating, and we have the ten most unreliable cars in Europe as declared by Warranty Direct.
When we run a story on car reliability, it’s usually about the most reliable cars to buy. This time, we have a list of the most unreliable cars in Europe – and it’s not good news for Land Rover.
The Land Rover Discovery 3 has been declared the most unreliable used car in Europe by Warranty Direct after analysing 20,000 warranty policies for 3-6 year old cars, with 85 per cent of owners reporting a problem – mainly with axle and suspension – and the average repair cost running at £2,856.
Other prized cars in the most unreliable list include the Bentley Continental GT – which came in second on the list – with 78 per cent of owners reporting problems – mainly electrical – and the BMW 7 Series clocking up 8th place on the list and the trophy for the most expensive average repair at £10,120, also with electrical issues.
At the other end of the reliability spectrum, the Mercedes E Class was the most reliable with just 10 per cent of owners having problems, problems that cost an average of just £637 to fix, followed by Skoda Fabia, Smart ForTwo and Volvo C70.
The whole exercise is a pitch for aftermarket warranties (and there’s nothing wrong with that), but it does illustrate how expensive running an older car can be. That said, it’s all pot luck and not entirely manufacturer related, as the appearance of the E-Class as the most reliable car and the CLS and SL in the least reliable list shows.
