Toyota Auris Touring Sports Specification – but no price
Sat, 16 Feb 2013Toyota has revealed specifications for the Auris Estate – the Toyota Auris Touring Sports – but has yet to come up with a price.
At the time, apart from learning the Auris Touring Sports was longer than the Auris Hatch, we didn’t get much more from Toyota. But now, ahead of the Auris Touring Sports turning up again at Geneva next month, Toyota has released more detail.
But the only really big news – or at least news we haven’t had so far – is on the load capacity of the Auris Estate, which offers a convincing amount of room for your stuff - 530 litres of space with the seats up and 1,658 litres with the seats down – which is more than either the VW Golf Estate or Ford Focus Estate.
That extra room in the back is because Toyota has used all the extra length of the Auris Estate – 285mm – for the shed on the back, and they’ve also made the space more usable by lowering the opening by 100mm and including the Easy-Flat folding rear seat system, dual-level loadspace, two-way tonneau cover and shopping hooks.
The rest of the Auris Estate stuff comes straight from the Auris hatch, with the same 1.33 and 1.6 litre petrol engine options and a single diesel – the 1.4 litre D-4D – and, of course (this is Toyota), the hybrid option of the regular 1.8 litre petrol with a small electric motor promising official emissions of 86g/km, making Toyota the first to offer a hybrid estate in this segment.
The Toyota Auris Touring Sports is due to go on sale in the UK this summer, by which time we hope Toyota will have come up with a price. But if you think in terms of a starting point around £15,500 you shouldn’t be far off.
