Toyota Prius MPV teased
Mon, 11 Oct 2010The Toyota Prius MPV Facebook Tease
We reported back in May that Toyota were finally going to produce a Toyota Prius MPV – probably with an extra row of seats – in 2011. Which looks to be on the money if the photo above, which has turned up on the Toyota Prius Facebook page today, is anything to go by.
The photo seems to make it clear that even though Toyota are using the tag line “The Prius family is getting a whole lot bigger” we should sensibly conclude that the biggest bit of bigger is that there will be an MPV and a plug-in. Because the MPV shown behind the regular Prius isn’t huge.
But it’s huge enough to shove in an extra row of seats in a more square profile with a higher roof. What the extra bulk and the extra seating will do to the economy of the 1.8 litre Prius powertrain doesn’t really bare thinking about, but I guess if you’d contemplate buying a Prius in the first place then performance and driver enjoyment are not at the top of your wish list.
One of the pluses of a higher roofline – apart from the additional accommodation – is that there may then be room under the floor of the Prius MPV for batteries. Which it’s going to need if the Prius MPV is going to come as a plug-in.
More news as we get it.
