Transition flying car completes first public flight

Think of a flying car and - depending on your age - you may think of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang or the Ford Anglia from the Harry Potter novels. But whatever, it's the stuff of fantasy, surely? The kind of machine that featured in those 'glimpses of the future' movies of the 1950s.

The Terrafugia Transition changes all that. In short, it's either an airplane that drives, or a car that flies. According to its makers, "The Transition brings a new level of freedom, flexibility and fun to personal aviation by combining driving and flying in one state-of-the-art vehicle". Sceptical? Don't be, because the Transition has just completed its first public demonstration flights…
