VW Golf Twist: Just £13k
Wed, 06 Oct 2010The VW Golf Twist - New entry-level Golf
When times are tough car buyers look to save wherever they can. And many new car buyers will forsake the more premium marques in order to save a few bob, and instead look at capable but less appealing makers.
Which probably goes some way to explaining the new VW Golf Twist which takes over as the entry-level Golf from the Golf S. Amazingly, VW say it offers £700 of extras more than the Golf S but starts – for the 3-door – from just £12,995. The Golf S started at £14,880.
The Golf Twist get the same 1.4 petrol lump as the Golf S, offering 79bhp and 97lb/ft of torque. You won’t be shocked to learn that such huge power translates in to a stunning 0-60mph of 13.9 seconds. And it averages 44.1mpg with emissions of 149g/km.
In terms of extra kit, the Twist gets 16″ alloys, Radio with MultiMedia connectivity and a front armrest (which doesn’t sound stunning for the extra £700 worth). It does of course come with Golf standard safety stuff such as ABS, ESP and a bunch of airbags.
The 3-door VW Golf Twist cost £12,995, and the 5-door Golf Twist comes in at £13,580. You can grab three years servicing for £250. Or, if you so choose, you can get the 3 years servicing as a freebie if you use VW to finance your new Golf Twist.
Yes, it’s cheap for a new Golf. But that’s because it’s a cheap Golf.
