VW XL1 SEV to take on the hillclimb at Goodwood Festival of Speed

Visitors to the Goodwood Festival of Speed can spend endless hours watching a seemingly endless precession of supercars take on the hillclimb. But one supercar this year will be a bit different.
Volkswagen are taking their super slippery, super frugal supercar – the VW XL1 SEV – to Goodwood next month and are planning on taking it up the hillclimb in the capable hands of former F1 champion Jacky Ickx. The XL1 may not be the quickest car to have ever tackled the Goodwood hillcimb, but with its claimed economy of 313mpg and emissions of just 21g/km, it may be the most efficient.
But it won’t just be ‘green’ cars at Goodwood for VW as they’re also taking along their Polo WRC car, and it to will be blatting up the hillclimb – a little moire spectacularly than the XL1, we expect – in the hands of Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, an outgoing member of VW’s Board of Management who’s obviously being given a bye-bye treat.
Apart from the XL1 and Polo WRC, VW will also have on hand the most sporty versions of the new Mk 7 Golf – the Golfs GTI and GTD.
The 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed – with the VW XL1 and much, much more – runs from 11-14 July 2013.
