Volkswagen, and the whole VW/Audi/Porsche/SEAT/Skoda… group are certainly attacking the recession head-on. No cowering in a corner for the Germans – go attack is definitely the ethos. And it’s working. The whole group are performing remarkably well at a rotten time.
VW has announced that the next phase in its world domination plan revolves around a new range of small cars (sub-Polo) that should cater for the ever-growing market in small, super-economical cars. And with that as an aim VW has announced that they are to make a whole range of small cars (presumably based on the Up! Concept) at their facility in Slovakia.
The Slovakian facility, in Bratislava, already makes a number of VW Group cars – Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne, Skoda Octavia and Volkswagen Touareg – so it knows a thing or two about producing quality cars. VW is prepapring to make an investment of around €300 million in the plant, creating around 1,500 jobs in the process, to make it ready to produce the new cars, which will hit the market by 2011.
VW boss, Martin Winterkorn, said:
Our team at Volkswagen in Slovakia is ideally prepared to provide the flexibility required for the production of the New Small Family.
So, with everything from the Up! based cars through to Porsche, Bugatti and Lamborghini, VW looks set to cover every sector and every niche in every sector we could want.
Good job their cars are worth having.
