Thu, 22 May 2014

A MAN has been charged with five offences after a van was stolen and driven for nearly 50 miles the wrong way along a motorway.

Officers were called at about 1.40am on Wednesday after a white Transit van was taken from Stock Road in Billericay, Essex.

The vehicle was driven to Harlow where it joined the M11, travelling north on the southbound carriageway. The van was eventually stopped on the A14 at Godmanchester, Cambridgeshire.

Ryan Nee, 19, of Harebell Way, Romford, has been charged with burglary and theft, taking a motor vehicle without consent, dangerous driving, driving without insurance and driving without a licence, Essex Police said.

He was remanded in police custody to appear at Basildon Magistrates' Court today.
