Vauxhall Adam SUV/Crossover on the way
Thu, 10 Oct 2013Vauxhall Adam SUV/Crossover on the way based on the Rocks Concept (pictured)
The Vauxhall/Opel Adam is now finding its way on to our roads, and it’s a decent – if slightly generic – take on the funky little urban runaround. But GM have big plans for the Adam and want to create a car that can compete on level terms with cars like the MINI and Fiat’s 500.
So the Adam comes with plenty of personalisation options and daft names to let younger car buyers create the car they want.
Seemingly endless customisation options for the Adam isn’t the only route Vauxhall and Opel will be going to build the Adam’s market, the Adam will be also spawning additional variants too.
Two of those were previewed with the recent Adam Rocks Concept which gave us a butch Adam with raised ride height and an opening roof similar to the Fiat 500 Cabrio, and now it looks like the first of those – an Adam SUV/Crossover – is heading for production.
According to Automotive News, the Adam Crossover is planned for a launch in 2014 with much of the styling from the Adam Rocks Concept – raised ride height, bolt on plastic cladding – as GM extend the appeal of the Adam range.
At a price likely to be at a decent premium to the regular Adam, the little Adam SUV will help GM’s bottom line in Europe, where funky little pseudo SUVs are a decent seller, and help cement the idea that the Adam is a range of city cars to suit all.
Expect the Vauxhall Adam Cabrio to be close behind.
