We know that Limited Edition cars shift metal in quiet times. What other reason could there be for manufacturers seemingly giving away options on a Limited Edition car? So if you want the options that are being thrown in the deal – and would have ordered them up if you specced a standard car – then it’s a good deal.

There’s also the residuals to take in to account. When it comes to shifting your pride and joy after a year or three the extra cachet of that Limited Edition badge and the extra toys will bring you a few bob more, and make it easier to shift.

So everyone wins. But we sort of expect the car maker to be at least original when they punt out a Limited Edition. But then again, if it works once why not give it a different name and punt it out again? In fact, if you’re Toyota, you can give it the same name and punt it out again 12 months later – check out the Toyota Aygo Black.

At least with this Vauxhall Corsa Black & White, Vauxhall have given it a different name and shoved it on a different model. But it’s uncannily similar to the Vauxhall Astra VXR Artic we got last month.

Does it have white paintwork with a black roof. Yep. What about Black alloys? Oh, yes. The Corsa Black & White even gets a VXR bodykit to emulate even better its big brother.

Sadly it’s all show and no go. The choice is the 85PS 1.2 16v VVT petrol or the 75PS 1.3 CDTi ecoFLEX, with fuel consumption of 53.3 and 65.7mpg respectively. All very good, but hardly what you’d expect from something that looks as if it should perform.

Oh, well, at least the price is reasonable. From £13,995 for the 3-door 1.2 16v  to £15,400 for the 5-door ecoFLEX diesel. But only for the rest of this year, and then the Corsa Black and White gets binned.

Although it could be back next year. If it sells.
