Vauxhall Insignia VXR – UK Debut at Goodwood
Tue, 23 Jun 2009Vauxhall Insignia VXR makes its UK public Debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed
The Vauxhall Insignia VXR was revealed in April as a 325bhp version of the very good Insignia. Featuring adaptive four wheel drive and an electronic limited slip diff., the handling is also aided by a 10mm lower suspension setup than the standard Insignia, and HiPerStrut front suspension which keeps torque steer in check.
Vauxhall XVR Concept
The Insignia VXR manages the 0-60 sprint in 5.8 seconds and a limited top speed of 155mph. And Vauxhall are going to put that performance and handling to the test by tackling Goodwood’s Hill Climb Coures. Twice a day for the duration of Goodwood (3-5 July) the VXR will tackle the tricky course at 9am and 1.25pm
Vauxhall are also bringing their most powerful production car to Goodwood – the Vauxhall VXR8 Bathurst S Edition. Both VXRs will be found in the Supercar Paddock, but it doesn’t look as though Vauxhall are going to but the VXR8 on the Hillclimb.
Vauxhall SRV Concept
For a bit of historic interest, Vauxhall are also bringing along a couple of Concept cars from the past. The XVR Concept was originally shown at Geneva in 1966, and features Gullwing doors, pop-up headlights and independent suspension. The second – the SRV Concept – was shown at Earls Court in 1970. It’s a ‘Futuristic’ four-door concept with an aerofoil and electronic self-leveling suspension. Both concepts can be found on the Cartier Lawn during the Festival.
Goodwood 2009 is shaping up to be a cracking weekend. If you can find the time to go, you should.
Even ‘she who must be obeyed’ will enjoy it.
