Vauxhall Zafira Tourer: More Details

Vauxhall Zafira Tourer

It wouldn’t be difficult to get more details on the Vauxhall Zafira Tourer, certainly as far as photos go. All we’ve had so far is a hologram of the Zafira Tourer hovering over an iPad held by designer Mark Adams. But now we at least get a set of photos. Well, manufacturer’s renders, anyway.

It does seem quite promising though, this Zafira Touring. As we said when we got the first photo of the Zafira Tourer, this is no replacement for the current Zafira – it’s a new model above it and designed to take on the likes of the Ford S-Max.

Vauxhall are calling the Zafira Touring a concept, but we doubt it’s far off production-ready. It gets the new family face with boomerang headlights and the new Vauxhall single-bar grill (does that sound like somewhere to go for lunch?).

Down the side there are the ‘Sideblades’ we see on the Astra and Insignia and there’s a panoramic roof that flows straight on from the windscreen, just like the Peugeot 5008.

Inside, the very light cabin – thanks to the panoramic roof – gets some clever seating as Vauxhall’s Flex7 seating evolves.

Row two can turn in to a pair of cabin chairs with armrests and footrests and slide to and fro and, once you’re prone and comfy, you can fiddle with the built-in iPads. Or at least you can on the concept. Don’t bank on it when the Zafira Touring goes in to production.

Power in this Zafira Concept comes from a 1.4 litre turbo, but that’s sounds entry-level to us for a production car. One surprise is we don’t see any clever doors like those on the Vauxhall Meriva. In fact they appear to be just openers – not even sliders.

I think we’d have a small bet on the Vauxhall Zafira Tourer hitting the market by the fourth quarter.
