Vauxhall: Three new engine ranges arriving in next year

Vauxhall – and we assume Opel – are planning three new engine ranges to launch in the next twelve months.

Vauxhall has revealed that they are planning a wholesale revamp of their engine range with the launch of three new engine ranges in the next year, starting with a new 1.6 litre turbo petrol.

The new turbo petrol engine will get direct injection and start-stop technology that Vauxhall say will cut fuel consumption by 13 per cent. The four cylinder ECOTEC engine will come in a variety of outputs and be used across the Vauxhall range.

Vauxhall say the new turbo petrol will offer levels of torque, linearity and noise reduction coupled with strong performance and low fuel consumption that will give it a jump on rivals, with torque of 221lb/ft from 1700rpm and peak power increased to 197bhp at 4700-rpm, up 20bhp on the current 1.6T.

Although Vauxhall are keen to tell us that they have three new engine ranges in the offing, they’re only offering up information on the ECOTEC range. But it seems likely we’ll see a new ECO range of diesel engines offered up as well as a three-pot range – well, one engine at least – that will find its way in to the Vauxhall Alex Adam.

Presumably Vauxhall will share the rest of their new engine range with us at some point.
