Video: Jaguar's Wayne Burgess and his design credos

Tue, 26 Nov 2013

Jaguar production studio director Wayne Burgess discusses his design credos and offers advice to aspiring car designers in a video from our friends at Jalopnik.

He describes his design process as "creating order from chaos", channeling a burst of eclectic ideas down into a simple, pure form.

"Design is an iterative process where it's all about throwing it out there, getting a load pinned up to a board and then looking to see what is working best. Then you go in and start refining the details, but fundamentally in the first instance it's just about getting the ideas out there," he explains.

When asked what advice he would give to car enthusiasts about how to get into the industry, Burgess says it's simply find and apply to the nearest college with a good automotive design course, and just to draw as often as possible.

He also talks about subjects ranging from the new F-Type coupé's design – while drawing a quite excellent sketch of it – to his impressive collection of dodgy cars.
