Video: Lexus LF-CC concept explained by its designers
Fri, 12 Oct 2012We're big fans of the Lexus LF-CC concept after seeing it in Paris. It's not what you would call traditionally beautiful but it's incredibly complex, engagingly off-beat and, most importantly, shows – along with the LF-LC concept – that Lexus may finally have a recipe for distinctive and consistent design.
Here Lexus Design's General Manager Yo Hiruta discusses the continuing evolution of the brand in an interview with the Lexus Blog.
"Looking back, we are really late comers compared to the three German premium brands," says Hiruta. "We are the new challenger and it is this that is making us bolder. Therefore the evolution of our design is speeding up, and as a result our designs are conveying more emotion, becoming stronger."
Hiruta says that the stance, profile and proportions of Lexus cars are the most important considerations when it comes to design. The new spindle grille we are seeing on its models is a design characteristic, but the profile and proportions suggest movement.
What can we expect to see in the future? Well, Hiruta says that Lexus Design will be determined by three factors – style, driving dynamics and advanced technology.
"In terms of our design, we will create more emotional looking cars, that's what Lexus fans can look forward to, not just in style, but also in driving experience."
