It’s almost four years since the latest VW Touareg was revealed – and a year since VW introduced and R Line version of the Touareg - and now it’s time for a bit of a nip and tuck for VW’s largest SUV. Heading for the Beijing Motor SHow next week is a facelift for the Touareg which combines small cosmetic tweaks with some new technology to bring the Touareg up to date.
A new front bumper and new bi-xenon headlights give the nose a new look, and a new back bumper, diffuser and LE fogs tweak the back. The side are taken care of with some new alloys.
Inside is even more minor with white illumination for the dials, new chrome highlights and aluminium knobs as well as an extended choice of upholstery.
Sadly, VW is dropping the Touareg Hybrid in the UK and is also dumping the 4.2 litre diesel V8 – an appealing car with some real grunt – and concentrating on the 3.0 litre diesel.
The entry-level 3.0 litre diesel will come in two flavours – 201bhp and 255bhp – both with 4WD and 8-speed auto ‘box, both with improved economy of 42.8mpg and 41.5mpg respectively, even though the more powerful version gets a hike in power.
New tech for the Touareg includes automatic post-collision braking system, coasting function and low rolling resistance tyres with air suspension and an enhanced ADC automatic distance control as options.
The 2014 VW Touareg SUV goes on sale in August in the UK with first deliveries in November.
