Volkswagen debuts two SUV concepts in Qatar

Volkswagen unveiled two SUV concepts, based on the Touareg, called the Race Touareg 3 Qatar and the Touareg Gold Edition at the Qatar motor show on Wednesday.

The Race Touareg 3 Qatar is a street-legal version of the automaker’s car that won the 2011 Dakar Rally. The car can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in less than six seconds.

The white exterior of the Race Touareg 3 Qatar includes a golden Race Touareg full-length graphic on either side. Volkswagen also increased the size of the wheels, which are also gold, from 16 inches to 18 inches.

The interior includes leather Recaro racing seats and a full roll cage. The seat-side supports and door-trim panels are wrapped in leather. An aluminum center console has Volkswagen’s Dakar victories etched into it to commemorate each win.

Volkswagen upgraded certain areas of both the exterior and interior on the Touareg Gold Edition with 24-carat gold. The exterior includes gold 22-inch wheels, roof rails, protective guard strips, window frames, mirror caps and parts of the air intake. The interior includes 24-carat-gold accents and switches. The roofliner, seats and dashboard are wrapped in leather.
