Volvo C30 production ends

Mon, 15 Oct 2012

The Volvo C30 is now going out of production as Volvo moves to refresh its range. A new small Volvo is planned.

Volvo worked hard to get the small C30 in to the hearts and minds of a younger audience with a feature role in the Twilight films, but the C30 was never a stellar seller.

Now, just as the new Volvo V40 hits showrooms, Volvo has revealed it is to end production of the C30 in December as it positions itself for what we expect to be a new small Volvo based on…we don’t know yet.

Volvo has said in the past that it was seeking partners to develop a new small car, and it’s the obvious route for Volvo to go. The new V40 isn’t going to be the entry-level Volvo and Volvo will need a new small car to replace the C30 that offers everything the V40 does, but in a smaller package and with 3-cylinder engines.

With no news on where Volvo will get their new platform from – the new V40 uses a modified Ford Focus platform, but that’s because Volvo was owned by Ford before Geely took over in 2010 – we don’t know how far away a new small Volvo is, but there have been rumours that Volvo would partner with BMW to use the new MINI platform.

For now, you can still grab a Volvo C30, but you’ll need to be quick before production closes for good at the end of December.
