Mon, 08 Jul 2013Renowned car designer Wayne Cherry was honored with a Lifetime Design Achievement Award at the EyesOn Automotive Design Exhibition at the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House, Michigan.
The former GM vice president of design was chosen by a panel of his fellow designers for the honor after a 42-year career with the carmaker, during which he was involved in the design of over 80 concepts and more than 90 production vehicles.
Only vehicle designers who have previously won the award are allowed to vote, with this year's panel including Chris Bangle, Walter de'Silva, Tom Gale, Giorgetto Giugiaro, Chuck Jordan, Robert Lutz, Shiro Nakamura, Chuck Pelly, Sergio Pininfarina and Jack Telnack.
Bob Lutz, GM vice chairman of product development and chairman of GM North America, said, "Wayne Cherry's dramatic designs deserve much of the credit for bringing Cadillac back to prominence."
Cherry said, "For me, one of the most important things is all of the wonderful, creative people that I've had the opportunity to work with. There has always been a tremendous talent at General Motors, and in their facilities all over the world. Being able to work with these people is a joy and a privilege that I will never forget."
The EyesOn Design Automotive Design Exhibition ran as part of the EyesOn Design Weekend, a benefit for the Detroit Insitute of Opthalmology. The theme of the 26th edition of the annual show was ‘Revolution Over Evolution' and aimed to highlight revolutionary moments in car design history. Attendees were treated to a look at some of the best automotive designs from the past and present.
