Webinars: 'Bring on the Bling' - Lighting with LEDs from OSRAM

Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) are revolutionizing automotive exterior lighting. No longer restricted by design and implementation constraints associated with traditional light sources, LEDs are providing designers and stylists with fresh canvases, illuminating their creativity. The implementation of this latest technology was the subject a CDN webinar in our ever-growing series.

Presented by Michael Martens, Product Marketing Manager at Osram Opto Semiconductors, the webinar, entitled ‘Bring on the Bling', took place on November 2, 2011 and covered the use of LEDs in exterior lighting. The webinar focused on how to effectively incorporate LEDs into new, state of the art automotive exterior lighting applications and covered new design ideas and lighting trends for tomorrow and beyond.

"Freed from the constraints of traditional incandescent, halogen and discharge lamp sources, LEDs provide the design opportunity to be different," said Martens. "LEDs are jewels that can make a vehicle sparkle and set it apart both at the vehicle level and at the brand level."

"LEDs bring a new dimension of possibilities to lighting design for automotive exteriors. They offer the designer a fresh palette of lighting options to make the vehicle shine," Martens adds.

The result of using LEDs in vehicles allows for increasingly innovative and distinct looks and unlimited opportunities for differentiation. With the adoption of LEDs for forward lighting applications such as low beam and high beam headlamps fast becoming a broad reality, and daytime running lamps increasingly becoming commonplace, LEDs enable greater freedom to create new and distinctive three-dimensional looks previously unattainable with traditional parabolic and projector lamp designs.

Signal lighting continues its evolution – no longer simply a matrix of individual point sources, it now encompasses light guides, light pipes, and other three-dimensional features, giving it greater aesthetic appeal and impact on the overall styling of the vehicle.
