Who's where: Luc Donckerwolke named Design Director at Bentley
Thu, 13 Sep 2012Luc Donckerwolke has been named Design Director of Bentley in the latest round of moves within the Volkswagen group, replacing Dirk van Braeckel.
Donckerwolke moves from Head of VW Advanced Design, a post he has held for little over a year. He is perhaps most renowned for his work at Lamborghini, overseeing the designs of both the Gallardo and Murcielago – two of the most successful and enduring Lamborghinis ever – during his time in Sant'Agata.
Of his appointment at Bentley, Head of VW Group Design, Walter de Silva said: "Luc Donckerwolke brings a wealth of design talent to Bentley. His extensive experience makes him the ideal person to take forward Bentley's future design language, at a time when the company has significant plans for new models."
He continued "I would like to thank Dirk van Braeckel for the significant contribution he has made to Bentley. He has overseen the evolution of the Bentley brand and the development of the new generation Continental family and the flagship Mulsanne."
Van Braeckel moves to a Volkswagen Group Design position that we are yet to confirm.
Donckerwolke, who prior to his position in VW Advanced Design was Seat's Design Director, takes the reigns at an exciting time for Bentley. The firm's recent SUV concept – the EXP 9F – was heavily criticized at its debut in Geneva and is understood to be undergoing a redesign. Donckerwolke will also surely lead the team responsible for the design of the next generation Continental GT – critical to the brand's expansion and on-going success.
We hope to speak to Donckerwolke in Paris about his new position and to find out more about what we should expect next of the brand from Crewe.
