Winners announced in Factory Five design competition

Fri, 17 Jun 2011

Earlier this year, we brought you news of an open-sourced design competition from American kit car manufacturer, Factory Five. The brief called for a compact, two-seat roadster that shared a drivetrain with the Subaru Impreza.

The car would feature a bespoke space-frame chassis, but the mechanicals would be lifted from the Impreza to allow the car to sell for under $15,000.

Since its launch in February of this year, the Massachussetts-based company received countless entries to its design competition. And now, Factory Five has announced its winner: Nouphone Bansasi. His winning entry claimed top spot as well as a $5,000 prize. Bansasi's design, which features a sleek body with muscular styling and some neat details, will become Factory Five's next kit.

Second prize was awarded to Rodney Olmos for his aggressively fronted concept, while third place went to Xabier Albizu.

The competition also called out other entries deemed to have excelled at some aspect of the brief. Competition sponsor Hewlett-Packard gave the Technology Award for Best Integration of Computer Technology to Davy Phomsavanh's concept.

Elsewhere, Romain Farrand's sleek, well-resolved entry picked up two 'Judge's Pick' awards as well as the SolidWorks Award for Best Integration of Computer Design.
