£2m McLaren P1 GTR for Pebble Beach

McLaren will show its new P1 GTR – pictured here for the first time in an official teaser shot above – at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance car show next month.
The P1 GTR will feature a number of circuit-biased modifications – including a 1,000hp engine – and will cost £1.98 million.
McLaren P1 GTR: track-focused modificationsThe GTR is based on McLaren’s P1 hybrid hypercar, itself designed not to be the fastest, but the most focused, involving and advanced driver’s car there is. However, it seems McLaren has decided to take this one step further.
The regular P1 was always designed to be a car for the Queen’s highway, but the P1 GTR will be restricted to circuit use only. As such, McLaren has made a number of modifications to improve the performance.
Built in-house, the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine and electric motor system has been boosted from 916hp to a nice round 1,000hp – although it’s not currently known if this increase is from the combustion engine or the electric motor.

Helping put that extra power to the road will be a set of slick tyres, while the chassis’ track has also been widened.
On top of this (literally) will be a race-derived aerodynamic package to increase downforce levels and push those new, sticky tyres into the Tarmac for even more grip.
As you can see from the above rendering, it’ll also make the McLaren look a lot more aggressive, with two huge tailpipes sprouting from underneath that enlarged, fixed rear wing.
McLaren P1 GTR: performanceIt’s not clear by how much the extra horsepower will increase the GTR’s performance over the standard P1.
With more grip and a more potent engine, expect the P1’s 2.8-second 0-62mph time to be slashed – possibly as low as 2.5 seconds, traction depending.
However, due to the extra aerodynamic addenda increasing the GTR’s drag, we expect it won’t reach the road-going P1’s electronically limited top speed of 217mph. Gearing may affect this also.

McLaren P1 GTR: production limited to 375 unitsThe McLaren P1 GTR will go into production in 2015 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the firm’s famous win at the 1995 Le Mans 24 hours with the McLaren F1 GTR.
The latest GTR will only be offered to existing P1 owners, meaning production will be capped at 375 units.
McLaren P1 GTR: priced at £1.98 millionAlthough now sold out, the P1 cost £866,000 when it went on sale in the UK. Combined with the £1.98 million price tag for the P1 GTR, it means to get that dream double McLaren garage, you’ll have to have in the region of nearly £3 million.
However, as part of the package owners will also get a "fully comprehensive" programme of driving events, training and vehicle support.
This includes "exclusive consultations with the McLaren driver fitness team and design director Frank Stephenson, privileged access to one of the McLaren racing simulators, and participation in a minimum of six dedicated international drive events to be held at some of the world’s most iconic Formula One circuits."
Sounds like great value to us…
