This is not a direct replacement for a 970 Cooper S Mini.  Check out my other auctions - I have 6" billet rods and pistons that will likely work in a factory  Mini Cooper 970 configuration.

Custom built billet crank 2.45 stroke by Ro-Dy in Plymouth, Michigan.  Ro-Dy creates and repairs crankshafts for Moldex, Huffaker, and numerous race teams in North America.  Excellent craftsmanship, fully balanced and in excellent condition.

Built for Bonneville and based on the 970 cooper specification, this inline configured crankshaft was the heart of our 2014 Bonneville class record with an A-series 1275 block.  Two articles about our record breaking runs at Bonneville are featured in the January and February 2015 issues of MG Enthusiast Magazine.

BMC made very few competition 970 inline forgings for the A-series - most factory 970 forgings were intended for transverse layouts in the Mini Cooper S.  I've only ever seen one factory short-stroke inline forging for sale in the last 8 years.  It's likely I'd still be waiting if I hadn't had this piece created.

If you are running in an old Formula 2 or Junior class, a minor offset grind to 2.439 stroke and undersized bearings should put you into compliance.  Given the scarcity of factory competition inline short-stroke forgings, this provides a superior, lighter and less costly option.  It's a fair bet that any factory piece is going to require a regrind at this point, so with this crank, you're starting with newer, superior material.

Free shipping to the lower 48 United States, but it's my suspicion this piece will likely be sold in Europe, Japan, New Zealand or Australia.  Please contact me for an international shipping quote.

I know it's an oddball, and that I have way too much money in it, but if you're looking for a high revving A-series capable of 9500 RPM without scattering, you're looking at the solution.  I've got a set of 6" billet rods and pistons available if you're looking to build a bullet proof, 1 liter screamer.  Check out my other auctions.

AutoWeek Design Forum: McLaren evolves with carbon fiber

Thu, 13 Jan 2011

McLaren Automotive design boss Frank Stephenson detailed his company's transformation from strictly racing to producing road-going models on Thursday at the AutoWeek Design Forum. McLaren is launching the highly anticipated MP4-12C this year, and the company has been hard at work refining the use of carbon fiber, which it pioneered in the iconic McLaren F1. The company cut the amount of time required to design a carbon-fiber tub from 3,000 hours for the F1 to a mere four hours for the MP4-12C.

Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid EV (PHEV): Details ahead of Paris debut

Fri, 07 Sep 2012

Mitsubishi has revealed more details on the plug-in hybrid electric Outlander ahead of a debut at the Paris Motor Show. Mitsubishi has been threatening a hybrid version of the Outlander for a few years (we had the  PX-MiEV at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2009 and the PX-MiEV II at last year’s Tokyo Show), but the real production deal – the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV – arrives at Paris. Now, with a public debut imminent, and full production and deliveries planned for 2013, Mitsubishi has revealed more details of their plug-in hybrid as they try to make their reputation for tough off-roaders and bonkers performance cars a bit more fluffy-bunny.
