The event was formerly known as the Monterey Pre-Historics, and it serves as a lead-in to the Monterey Motorsports Reunion staged during the Pebble Beach weekend on the Monterey Peninsula.

And to help its cause, the VW Jetta no longer shares any body panels with the Golf, so the bold claim being made is that this new model is ‘just as independent as a CC or a Tiguan’. Corvette Online nabbed the shot of a supercharged LT1-looking V8 mill; they cite the injector cover shape and the throttle body. The site also noted the twin-rotor supercharger with an LSA/LS9-style pulley on the front.
