This is an Alpina long range fuel tank for an E12/E24 5 or 6 series BMW.
The Alpina B7 Series had as standard equipment a 110L fuel tank, which was actually 2 tanks, the standard 80L tank modified to connect to an aux 30L tank stored in the trunk and is gravity fed by the fuel filler which in turn drains into the main tank. This is the Aux 30L tank. The battery were relocated to the trunk on these cars, and the Aux fuel tank had brackets welded to the top to support a fibreboard cover, making the top of the tank the same height as the battery. So in the Alpina cars, the area of the trunk between the wheel wells was filled up with the battery and Aux Fuel tank, covered by a carpet covered fibreboard matching the rest of the trunk lining. With the thirsty turbocharged engines these cars were fitted with, the extra fuel tank offers a much needed increase in range. I had this tank pressure tested and restored-painted on the outside, and coated on the inside. I paid $500 for the tank,and spent $250 restoring it. 27" x 5.5" x 13.75" 67.5cm x 13,75cm x 34.4cm = 31,904 cubic cm = approximately 30L. Opel Adam going rallying
Wed, 21 Nov 2012Opel is adding a bit of rally credibility to the new Adam by taking it rallying with an Adam R2 rally car for a one-make cup. But perhaps GM Europe are hoping to inject a bit of performance credibility in to the uninspiring mechanical offerings the Adam currently offers with the revelation that they’re making a rally Adam prepared to basic R2 spec, which means a tweak or three from the standard production car. That means upgrades to the engine, suspension, brakes and gearbox to produce an Adam rally car that’s an affordable entry point for young drivers and Opel are aiming to compete in the ADAC Opel Rally cup with the Adam R2.
Public Says No To Motorway Go Slow Plans
Wed, 12 Mar 2014IT’S A BIG ‘no’ from the motoring public on the subject of lowering motorway speed limits, according to a survey conducted by car supermarket firm Motorpoint. In light of recent proposals to reduce to 60mph the speed limit on a 34-mile section of the M1 spanning Derbyshire and South Yorkshire due to pollution concerns, the web-based survey found 78.1 per cent of drivers opposed such measures. Over 4,100 people participated in the poll on the company’s website – www.motorpoint.co.uk.
