Top Indian cars fail crash safety tests

SEVERAL of India's most popular small cars have failed independent crash tests, a global car safety watchdog said. David Ward, head of the London car-safety watchdog Global NCAP, which performed the crash tests, said the car industry in India lacked adequate safeguards. Four of five small cars popular on the Indian market last year, including the famous Tata Nano, failed the crash tests.

Porsche has revealed its new compact SUV at the LA Motor Show - the first time, claims the German brand, that a sports car has ever been offered in the compact SUV segment. The firm really is going all-out to emphasise the sporting aspects of the Macan: it sets new benchmarks for the segment on road, says Porsche. "It is the sports car in it segment." Mercedes to build CLS Shooting Brake

Mercedes has announced that the CLS Shooting Brake, which was shown as a concept at the Beijing motor show in April 2010, will go into production in 2012.  Well, if you want a car that will turn heads around town – and find the E-class estate has a little too much room – then this is the car for you. Mercedes flatly refuses to admit that the CLS Shooting Brake is an estate, preferring to call it a ‘sporty four-door coupe with a sloping tail end based on the CLS’. In essence, this car is a hatchback version of the CLS, and despite a slightly raised roof, it still sits a full 10cm lower than its E-class sibling.
