This wheel is from a small collection of parts imported from Germany where it was obtained over a number of years.

There were two basic versions of the Sport Steering wheel available- "Coarse splines" (generally for older cars), and "Fine splines" (generally for newer cars). "Coarse splines" means that the center hole has 36 splines, while "Fine splines" means that there are 54 splines.

This wheel has the "Fine" splines and is marked "E28" and "1 155 859.1" (hidden under the horn push). The outside diameter of this wheel is about 15" with my ruler (specified as as 385 mm in online references). According to BMW parts references, this wheel is Part Number 32311155859. According to online references, this wheel will fit other models from the 80's which have fine splines, but I cannot confirm this by personal experience (see compatibility details below).

Condition: This wheel is in excellent used condition. The stitching is fully intact, as is the leather. NO cuts through the leather, NO loose laces, NO marks in the leather except for mild, even wear around the circumference. NO visible marks on the center vinyl portion. NO smoking or mildew odors. The horn button with roundel emblem is also in excellent condition. The photos show the condition of this wheel - note that I have not used any magic cleaning or shining treatments, this is as I took it out of my storage. I do recommend use of a good leather conditioner when you put the steering wheel in service. The detail photos show the condition of typical areas.

Compatibility: I have read that this wheel will fit all PRE-AIRBGAG BMW's with fine splines on the steering column but cannot guarantee this. An online reference indicates: it will fit all BMW E30 E34 M3 M5 E32 E24 E28 models without an airbag. References also indicate that E24 and E28 cars must have been produced after 9/85 to have fine splines and use this wheel. It will not fit the older cars with coarse splines like my 2002, the Bavaria, or the 320i. Please do the research to confirm compatibility of this wheel BEFORE bidding. I cannot guarantee that the information above is correct or that this wheel will fit your car! The most important information is the number of splines your car has, but there may be other details that I'm not aware of.

Installation?: EASY! You will need the ignition key, a large deep socket wrench and the nut which holds your current wheel on, but this is a 5 minute job. However, I will not provide detailed installation instructions or installation assistance because a loose steering wheel is dangerous! If you aren't sure that you know how to install this wheel or aren't planning on getting professional assistance, Please do NOT bid on the item.
