The world declared the Cayenne too ugly to look at – well, that was the opinion of a certain Mr Clarkson – but anyone who’s lived with a Cayenne will know just how focused it is; it feels like a high-riding M5 to drive and, despite the misconception that sporty SUVs don’t do off-road, it’s remarkably capable when the going gets tough. The 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed is only four months away, and one of the highlights will be the Bonhams sale of the car collection of famed watch maker George Daniels, which includes a 1929 Bentley 4 1/2 Litre Supercharged Racing Single-Seater once owned by Tim Birkin in which he set the Brooklands Outer Circuit Lap Record in 1932 at 137mph. Tim Birkin was one of the fabled ‘Bentley Boys’ and George Daniels one of the most famous horologists in the world, and the sale of this Bentley 4 1/2 Litre ‘Blower’ is bound to attract a lot of attention and interest, with every expectation it could raise as much as £4 million.
