This is the original engine from my 02/00 E39 M5. This is "HAHA AMG", the silverstone metallic E39Source car! At exactly 192,000 miles, it was removed from my car. This engine functions as designed. It makes plenty of power, and feels fantastic to drive! I have replaced it with a rebuilt 2002 engine because I am moving to California later this year, and want an engine that has another 200,000 miles ready without major service. It killed me to pull this motor because it really does feel amazing.

This engine is a perfect rebuild candidate, or is ready to be installed into a car today, and drive beautifully. Oil pan to intake plenum, wiring harness, alternator, power steering pump, AC compressor, starter motor, everything is included except the air intake boxes and MAFs. This engine produces 0 check engine lights. In the last few years, it has gotten fresh spark plugs, camshaft sensors, and a lower timing chain tensioner. Oil changes have always (since new in 2000) been completed between 5,000-7,000 miles using Castrol TWS 10W60 full synthetic oil, with an OEM BMW engine oil filter.

This engine has never been tracked, raced, or otherwise abused. In 2008, at 108,000 miles, the engine was removed by Dave Walter BMW in Akron, Ohio for a carbon cleaning. It received new head gaskets and hardware at that point. This engine does have a very minor bank 1 valve cover gasket leak. The VANOS seals have been replaced with facelift units. There is no indication to me or my mechanic that the rod bearings or timing chains are making any noise.

Located in Hudson, Ohio.  In-between Cleveland and Akron.  Local pickup preferred.

New car sales in UK still growing – up 14.8% April 2013. Driven by PPI Claims?

Wed, 08 May 2013

It is quite hard to fathom just how UK new car sales (well, registrations) continue to rise inexorably against a backdrop of otherwise stagnant economic activity, but they do. April 2013 has seen a total of 163,357 new car registrations, up a huge 14.8 per cent on April 2012 and the best figure since 2008, and these sales figures are not being driven by fleet buyers but by private motorists – private sector registrations grew by 32.3 per cent in April and are up by 15.2 per cent year to date. Not surprisingly, it’s the Superminis that are performing strongly – although all sectors are showing a rise – and it’s the Ford Fiesta that continues to be the best seller in the UK with sales of over 8,000 in April and over 42,000 so far in 2013, and the rise of superminis has also seen an increase in sales of petrol-engined cars thanks to the wave of small capacity, frugal petrol options.

Vauxhall Insignia VXR Unlimited Option

Thu, 05 May 2011

Vauxhall Insignia VXR - now good for 170mph We like the Vauxhall Insignia; it’s a very good car. We like it even more in better-than-warm Vauxhall Insignia VRX guise, where this warmed-over rep-mobile manages to pick up its skirts and scoot to 60mph in 5.6 seconds. Which is all rather appealing.
