This is the ashtray assembly for certain BMW e36 models (buyer must assure fitment based on part numbers (below)), including both the housing and the insert or ashtray "interior."  The lid (or cover or door) mechanism is in working order, that is, it engages and stays shut (or locks) when you press it down, and then it opens when you press again.  There is some sort of a white substance or residue or oxidation on one end of the insert, see photos.  It doesn't dissolve with water, and it is not any sort of gooey or sticky substance.  I could not figure out how to remove it -- not that it has to be removed.  It functions fine as it is.  On the housing are these numbers: 51.16-1960 742 and  51.16-8144 796.9.  On the insert is this number:  51.16-8144 795.9.

One Lap of the Web: California, Corvette

-- Los Angeles is a city so tied to dysfunctional traffic that locals give it nicknames. Carmageddon, Rampture, Carmageddon II -- construction closure names become coping mechanisms. Hence Jamzilla, the name given to the closure of the 405 Freeway this long President's Day weekend, serving to impede the wanton roaming of Angelenos just when they finally have time to do so.

Here's his earlier report from the 2009 IAA - and you can now watch his video preview of the new 2010 Astra below I was chuffed to bits to win CAR’s competition to go to the 2009 Frankfurt motor show. But would the IAA live up to the hype on a general access public day, rather than VIP only press day?

Lexus LF-A Spotted

Tue, 12 May 2009

Lexus LF-A spotted out testing this week [ad#ad-1] Lexus have been playing with their Supercar – the Lexus LF-A - for at least four years now. They’ve had various mules floating around for years and have even been out playing on the track and at the Nurburgring. But still, four years from when the LF-A first surfaced at the Detroit Motor Show in 2005, a degree of mystery still surrounds the car.
