Volkswagen says Italdesign purchase will boost its growth strategy
Tue, 25 May 2010Volkswagen AG will acquire a 90 percent stake in Italdesign Giugiaro S.p.A., VW said Tuesday. The Giugiaro family will retain 10 percent in the 42-year-old automotive styling company that is famous for designing cars such as the first-generation Volkswagen Golf. VW CEO Martin Winterkorn said Italdesign will make an important contribution to the automaker's 2018 global growth strategy.
VW Taigun Compact SUV heading for production
Tue, 23 Apr 2013It was a good-looking and appealing effort from VW to tap in to the very compact SUV market, with a real family look (a Tiguan on a boil wash), peppy little 3-cylinder 1.0 litre engine delivering 108bhp and a 0-62mph of 9.2 seconds (with 60mpg economy) and enough room to carry stuff and people thanks to an extra 50mm in the wheelbase compared to the Up! Now it looks like the Taigun is heading for production after VW’s Chief designer, Klaus Bishoff, told Autoexpress that he deeply believed the Taigun would be heading for VW showrooms very soon, and could be sold in the UK and Europe as well as in emerging markets. So you can add the Taigun to the list of VW’s SUV offerings, and with new versions of the Tiguan and Touareg (perhaps based on the CrossBlue Concept) and a Polo based SUV on the way too, it looks like VW are covering all the bases.
Elemental RP1 sports car (2014): is this the world’s lightest sports car?
Tue, 03 Jun 2014By Tim Pollard First Official Pictures 03 June 2014 09:57 The history books of British sports cars are littered with failed attempts to build low-volume hot-shots to challenge the sporting establishment. But newcomer Elemental hopes to launch a focused track car to survive the test of time: the new RP1. It’s built around a carbonfibre tub and is claimed to weigh just 450kg in its lightest iteration.
