Detailed item info
Product Information
"The ESCORT Passport Radar Detector provides a worry-free driving experience. Up-to-date software and on-board GPS provide advanced radar and laser detection for known traffic hotspots while customizable settings allow the Passport to perform according to the driver’s preference. In addition, false alert rejection is improved through GPS technology.

Artificial Intelligence
The ESCORT Passport 9500ix features the AutoLearn automatic alert classification system, which constantly monitors radar and laser signals to discover, identify, and remember new points of interest. Manual reference points can be designated and recorded in the database. In addition, GPS position information is continuously checked against a database of speed traps, red-light cameras, hotspots, and known points of interest to alert the driver.
The current speed information of this GPS radar detector feeds the adaptive Digital Signal Processor (DSP), using advanced artificial intelligence (AI) software to deliver the most relevant alerts and automatically eliminate false alerts.

Exceptional Performance
The ESCORT Passport 9500ix provides complete radar and laser protection with 360-degree coverage. Radar detection covers all known speed radar bands, including X-band (10.525 GHz), K-band (24.150 GHz), and Ka-band (34.700 GHz), and laser (904 nm) detection. Laser detection is accomplished by quantum-limited video receiver technology, a highly sensitive laser detection system. Laser coverage is also analyzed and recorded by the AutoLearn GPS database. Moreover, the ESCORT Passport 9500ix can alert the driver before approaching a known hotspot even when beyond radar or laser range. Furthermore, proprietary Traffic Sensor Rejection algorithms distinguish true signals of interest while suppressing false alerts.

Full-Featured Capabilities
A full-featured GPS radar detector, the ESCORT Passport Radar Detector includes the following capabilities:All-band radar and laser coverage: The Superheterodyne/GaAs receiver gives the Passport high signal sensitivity to detect weak radar signals. All-band radar and laser coverage means the driver will be alerted if any valid radar/laser gun is encountered, including speed camera radars.Speed alert monitoring: This function alerts the driver if his or her speed exceeds the set limit. GPS speed monitoring gives drivers the ability to obtain accurate real-time vehicle speed information.Auto mute: This capability automatically controls the volume level based on vehicle speed so that voice alerts are always delivered with the right volume.Auto power: This capability automatically controls the power flowing to the GPS radar detector to preserve the car’s battery life when parked. Five-level display brightness control: This brightness control allows the driver to choose exactly how much illumination is required.Voice alerts: With hi-fi audio, these alerts deliver clear information to the driver, allowing him or her to focus on the road ahead.Signal strength meter and expert display mode: These additional features provide information about the signal received so that advanced users can decipher it.Customizable and updateable GPS database: Updateable through an Internet-enabled PC, the database of this GPS radar detector contains all known speed traps.

City, Highway and Auto sensitivity modes: City mode reduces sensitivity for dense environments with slower speeds, while the Highway mode provides full sensitivity for maximum long-range detection that is very useful at higher speeds. Auto mode takes advantage of the GPS vehicle speed information to tune the sensitivity and deliver specific alerts relevant to the driver.
Overall, the ESCORT Passport Radar Detector, with its advanced digital processing and innovative software, gives drivers confidence and peace of mind while on the road."

Ellesmere Port's bid to build Ampera hits snags

Fri, 09 Oct 2009

By Rob Golding Motor Industry 09 October 2009 15:02 Prime minister Gordon Brown’s personal crusade to get Vauxhall's version of the Chevrolet Volt petrol-electric plug-in hybrid – the Ampera – built in Britain's Ellesmere Port factory in 2012 is a dream delayed, CAR can disclose today.News that the UK Astra plant is the best in Europe, that the Astra's Delta platform will underpin the Ampera, and that Volt will be on US sale from 2010 had been taken to mean that Vauxhall would be churning out the cars in the north west within three years. But the prospect of an electric car industry growing up around the run-down Merseyside manufacturing site is not imminent, CAR has learned.'No Ampera to be built in Europe before 2015'Vauxhall insiders have made it clear that the car to be known as the Vauxhall/Opel Ampera in Europe will be an import from the US for at least five years. One senior planner told us: 'The US will be the sole source of Amperas until at least 2015.'Bob Lutz, GM's former product supremo who recently came out of retirement as a PR, said that the low value of the dollar made the US an ideal site for the manufacturing of export cars. And with forecast sticker prices of the range-extender electric car standing at a scary £35,000+, every price saving is vital to its marketability. The European market also needs time to get its electricity recharge infrastructure in place before it is worth making cars onshore in volume, GM high-ups point out.

Ferrari California (2008): more details

By Ben Whitworth First Official Pictures 25 June 2008 14:01 Ferrari continues its tantalising drip feed of information and images on the new California, with new footage of the roof in action appearing on the car’s website (www.ferraricalifornia.com) today. The fully automatic electro-hydraulic folding metal roof is a two-piece unit that converts the coupe to convertible in just 14 seconds. When the roof is up, the boot has a 360-litre capacity, shrinking to 260 when the hard-top is folded away.

Passengers are the biggest distraction

Tue, 29 Jul 2014

THE BIGGEST DISTRACTION for drivers is other people in the car. Adult passengers are the most distracting, with 18% of drivers saying they have had a near miss or crashed because of their attention being drawn away by someone else in the car. A survey by the AA found adjusting the radio was the second biggest distraction, with 16% of drivers admitting they had narrowly avoided a collision or been in a crash while fiddling with the radio.
