Electric cars get a £500 million government cash boost – but will it get spent?
Mon, 05 May 2014The new BMW i3 EV (pictured) will be subsidised until 2017. The subsidy of up to £5000 paid to buyers of electric cars has been with us for three years, but it hasn’t had much impact on EV sales and it did look like the government had decided to scrap it all together. Citroën invites design ideas via Facebook
Wed, 04 Apr 2012Citroën has launched a Facebook app calling for users to select design features for what it calls a special edition car, the first crowdsourced car in the UK. Rather than the genuinely design-led competitions we've seen recently from Renault (Twizy) and Citroën's own DS3, ‘You Like It, We Make It', offers six configurations such as exterior and interior color scheme, technology options like Bluetooth and SatNav, alloys, and the number of doors the vehicle has. The Citroeën C1 Connexion special edition will be kitted out with the most popular ideas and those participating via the app will be in with a chance of winning the car when it goes on sale later in the year.
Red Bull Racing's X2014 concept car to feature in GT6
Wed, 04 Dec 2013Red Bull Racing has revealed its X2014 concept car that will feature in the upcoming Gran Turismo 6 racing game. The Formula 1 team's chief technical officer Adrian Newey worked alongside Polyphony Digital to develop the road car, which is obviously very much inspired by F1 car design. Elements such as the F1 car nose and low-hanging front spoiler are proof of this, although the design features headlamps and fenders surrounding the tires.
