Lotus to build Ethos mini with Proton, Elan delayed
Tue, 21 Jun 2011Lotus today confirmed it will build its city car concept - with help from parent firm Proton - but the Elan sports car has been put on ice. The new Lotus city car will be called the Ethos, continuing a long tradition of E-names for products from Hethel. Designer Tom Matano part of start-up car company in Louisiana

Boone Pickens and staffed by former Mazda design chief Tom Matano plans to build "environmentally friendly" vehicles in Louisiana. V-Vehicle Co., of San Diego, will bring about 1,400 workers to a Monroe plant that once belonged to General Motors, according to a statement Wednesday from the Louisiana Economic Development Web site.

The range extender engine was part of a joint project between Lotus, Jaguar, MIRA and Caparo in conjunction with the Technology Strategy Board and was designed to provide charge – rather than drive – for hybrid cars. A solution that seems far more elegant than the current Prius-type setups.
