Brazing and soldering are essential metal-joining techniques for a range of jobs in the workshop. This book will introduce readers to the methods and teach these skills safely and effectively, with step-by-step photography throughout.

Brazing and Soldering is a practical guide to the main brazing and soldering types: soft soldering, silver soldering, and brazing, and is perfect for home metalworkers, engineers, and workshop mechanics. It will introduce readers to the methods, and show how to enhance these skills safely and effectively, with step-by-step photography throughout. Included is advice on equipment and how to build a brazing hearth. There is also an overview of alloys, fluxes, lead loading, body and electrical soldering, and pickling and cleaning. All of this is set alongside a range of case studies to show practical technique applications.

Richard Lofting is the author of Welding. He is a technical writer for Tractor and Farming Heritage Magazine, and has been using brazing and soldering techniques for more than 40 years.

Jeep hides ad in 'Saturday Night Live' skit, sort of

Mon, 31 Mar 2014

Jeep did something over the weekend that we've never seen before -- probably because we're too young. Bridgestone’s ‘We’ve been everywhere’ Road Trip prize giving

Fri, 09 Aug 2013

Bridgestone’s ‘I’ve been everywhere’ Road Trip Flogging tyres isn’t the easiest job in the world; we all need them – at intervals far too regular than we’d like – but buyers tend to fall in to two camps – those who know a brand and ask for it by name, and those that have put on their car whatever the man at Kwik Fit is pushing this week. So ‘Brand Awareness’ is the name of the game (a game that can backfire – just ask Pirelli what’s going on in F1) and the more potential buyers a tyre brand can lodge its name in the brain of, the better. Which is why Bridgestone are running their We’ve been everywhere interactive campaign which very cleverly plots the escape of one man from office drudgery and showcases his journey out in to the proper world, all to a soundtrack of Johnny Cash’s ‘I’ve been everywhere’.

Mercedes C63 AMG 'Edition 507' (2013) first official pictures

Fri, 01 Feb 2013

Mercedes has squeezed another 50bhp out of the C63 AMG, creating the 500bhp 'Edition 507' range. The power bump comes courtesy of forged pistons new connecting rods and a lightweight crankshaft inherited from the £160,000 SLS AMG supercar. Why is this special C63 AMG called the 'Edition 507'?
