BMW is on track to sell more than 2 million vehicles in 2014 By Tim Pollard Motor Industry 15 July 2014 07:11 The BMW group has said it is on track to pass more than 2 million vehicle sales in 2014. The milestone is proof that the company's diversification with its growing BMW brand, and expanding Mini and Rolls-Royce sub-brands, is working. Global sales and marketing chief Ian Robertson gave a sales update during a trip to Incheon in Korea this week.

He is currently BMW's global product management boss and will replace Tom Purves who will retire after 25 years with the BMW Group (Rolls-Royce)• Japan has bowed to pressure and extended its scrappage scheme to include American brand vehicles. Many had been barred from the scheme because they had different fuel economy standards (Automotive News, subscription required)• New GM Europe CEO Nick Reilly has vowed that Opel and Vauxhall will become a global company.

Nissan Leaf tours the country

Those who haven't made it to the dealership to test drive a Nissan Leaf can get behind the wheel of the electric car when the carmaker swings through towns across the country on its Drive Electric tour. Started on July 8 in Long Island, the tour is visiting 26 cities from Indianapolis to Austin, Texas. Attendees will learn about driving and owning a Leaf, how the car compares with other vehicles, its fuel efficiency and environmental impact, and how to communicate with the car via phone or computer.
