Mainstream carmakers have put the brakes on nine diesel-powered vehicles that had been scheduled for 2010. Honda, Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Nissan and Toyota have halted diesel programs because of spiraling costs and other problems. Financial problems halted the programs at some companies.

Ferrari auction raises funds for Japan relief

Car lovers came together for a good cause at the Italian Embassy in Tokyo on Monday. More than 200 people participated in a Ferrari charity auction, which raised more than 500,000 euros, or about $723,000 at current exchange rates. Proceeds will benefit the city of Ishinomaki, which was severely hit by the earthquake in Japan in March.

It now seems that this is getting closer to reality, as BMW has let it be known that the range of small city cars they are working on as part of the ‘BMW Project i’ will be launched as a ‘Sub Brand’. But what does that mean?
